Description

A plumber maintenance handles the day-to-day upkeep, repairs, and prevention of plumbing issues in homes, offices, factories, schools, etc. The goal is to keep water, drainage, and gas systems running safely.

*Core Responsibilities*
- *Preventive maintenance*: Inspect pipes, taps, toilets, water heaters, pumps, and drainage systems on a schedule to catch leaks and corrosion early
- *Repairs*: Fix leaks, burst pipes, clogged drains, running toilets, faulty valves, and broken fixtures
- *Installations*: Set up new sinks, showers, water tanks, geysers, bathroom fittings, and pipework during renovations
- *Troubleshooting*: Diagnose low water pressure, backflow, sewer blockages, and gas pipe issues
- *Maintenance records*: Log repairs done, parts used, and note recurring problems for future planning
- *Safety & compliance*: Follow building codes, use PPE, and ensure shut-off valves and backflow preventers work properly
- *Coordination*: Work with electricians, builders, and facility managers. Respond to urgent maintenance calls

*Key Skills Needed*
- *Technical*: Pipe cutting/threading, soldering, PVC/CPVC, PPR, and GI pipe work. Knowledge of pumps and water tanks
- *Tools*: Pipe wrench, plunger, drain snake, pressure gauge, welding torch, leak detector
- *Problem solving*: Can trace a leak behind walls or figure out why a drain keeps blocking
- *Reading*: Understand plumbing blueprints and maintenance schedules
- *Soft skills*: Reliable, punctual, good communication with tenants/staff, and tidy work area

*Typical Requirements*
- *Experience*: 2-4 years hands-on maintenance experience. Apprenticeship or trade school cert is a plus
- *Certifications*: Trade test certificate, and for gas work, relevant gas safety certification
- *Physical*: Able to lift 20kg+, work in tight spaces, on roofs, and be on-call for emergencies
- *Other*: Own basic tool kit, driver's license often preferred

*Work Environment*
Usually split between workshops, basements, rooftops, and tenant spaces. Some weekend/on-call rotation for burst pipes or floods. Can be in residential buildings, hotels, hospitals, or industrial plants.
