Senior Mechanical Engineer / Engineering Manager / Project Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, test, and oversee the installation and maintenance of mechanical systems, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. The successful candidate will work on projects from concept design through commissioning, ensuring all work complies with safety standards, codes, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
Design HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), plumbing systems, and fire protection/fire fighting systems for new and retrofit projects.
Perform heat load and cooling load calculations, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection.
Prepare mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment schedules, and specifications (e.g., AHU, chiller, pump, fan schedules).
Select and specify mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), and ventilation fans.
Ensure designs comply with local and international codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IMC, IPC).
Project Execution & Site Supervision
Review shop drawings and material submittals from contractors and vendors.
Supervise and inspect mechanical installation works on-site to ensure compliance with approved designs and specifications.
Coordinate with electrical, civil, and other MEP disciplines to avoid design clashes and ensure smooth project execution.
Conduct site inspections, quality checks, and pressure/leak testing during construction and installation phases.
Testing & Commissioning
Develop and execute testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) procedures for HVAC systems.
Witness and document factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for mechanical equipment.
Perform functional performance testing to verify systems meet design intent.
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical faults during commissioning and handover.
Prepare commissioning reports, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals.
Maintenance & Support
Provide technical support for operational mechanical systems, including fault diagnosis and repair.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection equipment.
Monitor system performance and recommend upgrades or energy-efficiency improvements.
Respond to emergency mechanical issues and ensure timely resolution.
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, and project documentation.
Ensure all designs and installations meet health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and equipment maintenance.
Liaise with regulatory authorities and relevant civil defense/fire authorities as required.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
Collaborate with architects, consultants, contractors, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and site staff.
Prepare cost estimates, material take-offs (BOQ), and tender documentation.
Support procurement by reviewing vendor proposals and technical compliance.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience
2–6+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design, installation, or maintenance (adjust based on seniority level).
Experience in commercial, industrial, or residential building projects preferred.
Background in plumbing, fire protection, or industrial process systems is a plus.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of mechanical/HVAC codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IMC, IPC).
Proficiency in mechanical design software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, HAP, Trace 700, Elite Software, Pipe Flow Expert).
Solid understanding of HVAC systems, chilled water/hot water systems, ductwork design, and piping systems.
Familiarity with plumbing systems (domestic water, drainage) and fire protection systems (sprinklers, standpipes) is advantageous.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
Certifications (Preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent (advantageous, depending on region).
Certifications such as LEED, NEBB (TAB), or manufacturer-specific training are a plus.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
Work Environment
Combination of office-based design work and on-site supervision/inspection.
May require working in construction environments, plant rooms, mechanical rooms, or at heights (with appropriate PPE and safety training).
Occasional travel to project sites may be required.
